Silica gel adsorbs moisture and holds it inside the pores of the bead itself — without changing shape, without liquefying and without transferring anything to the packaged product.
How it works
Physical adsorption: moisture is trapped in the pores
Silica gel is silicon dioxide (SiO₂) in the form of porous beads. Airborne moisture is held by physical adsorption on the vast internal surface of those pores — the bead keeps its shape and stays dry to the touch throughout its service life.
This differs from deliquescent desiccants such as the calcium chloride in Dry Box, which dissolve in the water they absorb and form a solution. Silica gel never produces liquid — which is why it is the standard choice for use inside the packaging, next to the product.
It is non-toxic, odorless, chemically inert and non-corrosive, allowing direct contact with bottles, blisters, metal components and sensitive surfaces.

Frequently asked questions about silica gel
What is the difference between silica gel and calcium chloride desiccant?
Silica gel works by physical adsorption: it holds moisture in its pores and keeps its shape, producing no liquid. Calcium chloride (Dry Box) works by deliquescence: it absorbs far more water but dissolves in it. That is why silica gel goes inside the packaging, next to the product, and calcium chloride goes on the container walls.
